About This Program

CI: Healthcare is a free activity-filled day that offers high school students who have an interest in health careers an opportunity to explore Nursing and Allied Health careers, including Radiology, Medical Lab Technology, Respiratory Therapy, Physical Therapy, Biology, and more, at either LSU Alexandria or Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady University in Baton Rouge. Interactive, hands-on activities are included throughout the program day.

Curriculum

What You’ll Learn

CI: Healthcare runs as a single full day on campus. Registration begins at 7:30 am with a welcome session at 7:45 am, and the program wraps up by 4:00 pm. Lunch is provided. The following allied health departments may be featured during the program day.

Nursing and Patient Care

Nursing pathways including RN, BSN, PN, and CNA, along with phlebotomy and the birthing simulator, giving students a look at bedside care from several angles.

Diagnostics and Laboratory

Medical Lab Science, Radiologic Technology, and Forensic Science sessions where students work with the diagnostic equipment and lab techniques used in each field.

Therapy and Rehabilitation

Respiratory Therapy and Physical Therapy Assistant sessions covering how these professionals restore function and support recovery.

Medicine, Pharmacy, and Emergency Care

Pharmacy, Human Medicine, and EMT / Paramedic sessions covering medication management, physician training, and emergency response.

College Readiness

A dedicated session on college admissions, financial aid, campus tours and expectations of college from current health care program students.

Spots are limited, so apply by November 21st by 11:59 pm. A completed online application must include the application itself, one letter of recommendation from your teacher, counselor, or high school principal, and a copy of your most recent high school transcript from your counselor.

When does this program usually take place?

One day during the month of mid-December in Alexandria, or early January in Baton Rouge.

Who is eligible to apply?

High school sophomore, junior, or senior students interested in nursing or allied health, with at least a cumulative 2.5 grade point average.

Nothing. CI: Healthcare is completely free to participants.
