Why Join This Program?

Impact
One day on a university campus, working directly with anatomy and clinical equipment, gives students something a classroom cannot: a clear picture of whether a health career actually suits them.

Purpose
The purpose of Healthcare Heroes Expedition is to let students explore several health professions side by side in a single day, so they can narrow their interests before choosing a college program.

Value
Students spend the day at Louisiana Christian University with faculty from the programs they are considering, working through anatomy interactions and hands-on clinical activities rather than sitting through presentations.

Benefits
Participants explore physical therapy, nursing, medicine, exercise science, anatomy interactions, and more, all in one free day, with lunch provided and direct access to university faculty and students.

Testimonials
Program Impact: Student Perspectives
Students tell us that Healthcare Heroes Expedition confirmed for them that helping people is exactly what they want to do with their careers. Here is what past participants and partners had to say.
Aubrey Goudeau
All three programs have instilled in me that healthcare and helping people is 100% what I want to do, and I’ve seen first hand other healthcare professionals’ passion and love for it.
Amara Hardin
The experiences I had are going to be instrumental to me through my college years and hopefully beyond that. AHEC allowed me to have hands-on experience in the medical field and confirm that this is what I want to do with my life.
Devin Janice
We were able to see first hand what type of training you would have to go through. Leaving the program made me less anxious and persuaded me even more to reach my goal.
Debra Smith
These students are future bedside nurses, doctors, or lab and x-ray techs. They enroll in university programs and upon completion they are employed in local communities.
